OTS Officers 2024
President - Sydney Clary
Major: Biomedical Sciences
Year: Junior
Hometown: Plano, TX
Why OT? I was initially introduced to OT when my little sister was born with down syndrome. I saw firsthand how occupational therapy improves a person’s ability to live independently and increases their confidence over time. I love the expansiveness of OT as a career, as well as how customizable it can be for every patient. My hope is to one day be a part of this field and bring hope and positivity to every patient I come into contact with!

Why OT? I chose OT because I love how the profession exercises creativity and compassion to help patients restore their independence, confidence, and ability to do activities they love. I would love to be part of that journey and have the opportunity to spend quality time with patients and help them improve their quality of life in all areas. That is what makes OT so rewarding and exciting! I also love that this field promotes everlasting learning with new research, technology, and the diverse range of patients you’ll encounter.

Secretary - Kelly Klein
Major: Kinesiology
Year: Junior
Hometown: The Colony, TX
Why OT? I chose OT because I have always had a heart for individuals with disabilities. I, myself, have a learning difference; at a young age I understood just a fraction of some of the difficulties these friends face daily. My dream in becoming an OT is to ultimately help individuals gain more independence and daily life skills to improve and enhance their abilities! I love people and I cannot think of a better way to love and serve in this capacity than as an occupational therapist!

Service Chair - Macy Cruz
Major: Biomedical Science
Year: Senior Hometown: Victoria, TX Why OT? I chose OT because this career field empowers and restores confidence to patients by providing a safe space for patients to work with an OT to create and achieve goals and gain the skills needed for patients to be able to participate in the daily activities they truly enjoy. I have a cousin that was born with arthrogryposis which is a congenital disorder that causes stiff/weak immovable joints in the limbs and through OT she was able to explore her passion for creating art through using adaptive equipment and finding ways that work best for her. From what I have learned through getting to see my cousin create art without feeling limited by her condition and through my experience shadowing in the OT field is that I want to be an OT because I am passionate about providing people the opportunity to discover the activities that bring them joy and restore confidence and power over their condition. Web Coordinator - Cassidy Halfmann
Major: Allied Health
Year: Junior
Hometown: Troy, TX
Why OT? Growing up, I witnessed my grandparents experience major health complications that led to them losing much of their strength and abilities. Yet, with the help of occupational therapy, they were able to learn new skills for taking care of themselves and each other, which allowed them to maintain much of their independence and continue sharing in important moments in our family. I want to be an occupational therapist so that I can give back to individuals and their families the way that they did for mine. I love the impact that OTs have on their patients and the special role they play in helping people live their lives to the fullest.
